If you have the new Mac OS X Leopard, be sure to run your software update to get the latest updates to the Leopard system.
I like the new taskbar Time Machine icon. It’s definitely better than clicking through System Preferences to see the status of my backups!
I’ve yet to see too many other changes but if there’s something significant I’ll definitely report it here. Cheers!

Recently my hard drive went to the grave, and I popped in a brand new Hitachi 200GB 7200rpm 16mb cache SATA drive.
I was just happy to have my MacBook up and running again so I didn’t think much of the upgrade/replacement. Then today when I was running on battery power, I noticed that my “time to live” indicator showed that my battery still had another 6 hours and 20 minutes left of juice! I was baffled! Could the new hard drive be saving me that much battery life? After some research, it’s indeed true! Efficient hard drives save battery life!
So if you find yourself with some extra bucks, think about upgrading that 2.5″ mobile drive and compute your way to longer battery lives! Long live the battery!

I was reading through my news feed this morning and saw a post about the Apple.com site being down, and immediately speculation arose of product updates! Well they were right! I don’t think many people saw this announcement coming so soon, and I bet Steve Jobs wished he could have thrown this product update into his “investor disappointing” keynote.
Many people have complained about the capacity of the flash memory in the iPod Touch and the iPhone, and finally Apple has delivered! Today Apple has introduced the 32GB iPod Touch and the 16GB iPhone. I’m sure this will spark even more growth in the company’s stock price and I almost wish I bought some stock when the stock price went down after the Macworld keynote!
I believe the new Touch comes with the latest software update included and the new 32GB model comes with a $499 USD price tag. The new 16GB iPhone comes with the latest software update as well, and a $499 USD price tag as well. So pretty much if you want the expandability and cell phone features of the iPhone, then your decision is already made for you. But if you want more capacity and don’t need the cell phone features and can get around with just Wifi then the Touch may be just what you’re looking for.

After my hard drive died on me Thursday, I quickly found a replacement and it’s no slouch. At 7200 rpm, 16mb of cache, and 200GB of storage space, this new Hitachi drive is a good swap.
Thanks to Leopard and the Time Machine, restoring my system was just a matter of time, but the restoration was relatively easy and painless. It’s a whole lot better than having to reinstall all my software if I was running on XP or even worse — Vista. Thankfully this new drive has a three year warranty, and as long as I keep backing up my data, I’m sure I’ll be fine.

To thee I drop this crimson rose,
To mourn the worn out head.
You served me well,
You took whatever I could throw at you.
Now you lay with data still in platter,
Now you spin without a stir.
May you remember all I transfered,
May you hold the secrets left in bits.
Yes it’s true. The 5400rpm hard drive of the beloved blackBook has “headed out” and refuses to be recognized. I write this on the dusty XP system, staring at the lifeless blackBook that is in desperate need of a hard drive transplant. It was the heart of all that the blackBook featured, and now it lies motionless.
Thank goodness I backed up its memories before they could be lost forever. Rest in peace little mobile drive, and may the computer gods use your platter for better purposes.
