Sleep…such luxury! Now and then during my undergrad years, I had been an involuntary candidate of sleep deprivation experiments. When midterms, essays and assignments piled up, I would burn the midnight oil…staying up hours into the night, scrambling to write, edit, memorize…anything to stay in good standing.
One time, I was studying at 4am for a physiology exam the following day, when I came upon the unit of sleep. It clearly stated the horrible effects of continuous sleep deprivation. The irony of it all! After reading the chapter, I instantly rushed off to bed. “I would rather fail the exam tomorrow!” I thought.
Nowadays, I crave those wonderful nights of sound sleep, the ones you wake up to feeling refreshed and energized. With that as the goal, I got new pillows, as the old ones were flatter than a wallet after the holidays. Such surprising differences! Now, I am tempted to get a nice mattress.
When I was younger, I thought sleep was such a waste of time. But now, it feels like a method of relaxation.
