“Why do ~they~ get all the good stuff while we get stuck with the lousy stuff?!”
How many times have you heard that? I’m sure multitudes of times, and it’s a fact of growing up as well. But what I’m here to rant about is not about something petty or small, but rather on a national scale. What am I ranting about? The lacking availability and legality of certain cars in Canada. The cars that really grind my gears for not being available are the Toyota MR-S, the Mitsubishi Evolution (Evo) series, and possibly the Scion tC.
First of all the MR-S is just a spectacular car visually and performance-wise. Not the power, but the agility is what makes this car special. Not as twitchy as the younger generation of MR2s but with more grip in mind. Not only that, but with a hard-top this car is like a mini Porshe Carrera GT. I know that’s a big statement but this little car should be remembered. Unfortunately it is no longer in production and there is now little hope that this car will ever see Canadian road legally.
While I love the Subaru Impreza line and all it’s souped-up siblings, the Evo’s are a special breed of automobile that makes no compromise for passenger comfort and is focused solely on the driver having fun and total control. Have you ever seen the interiors in Mitsubishi’s line-up? Not only are they sub-par but they also keep the price down (that’s duality for you)! For some reason the Evo’s haven’t been sold here in Canada, but I hope this year the new Evo X makes its debut to give Subaru an AWD competitor and hopefully bring the price down on the WRX and STi.
I know many of you (unless you live in the US) have not heard of the Scion tC, but this is one car that definitely has the potential to cause some ripples in the Honda Civic market share. It has decent looks (although the front could use a little help) and a decent engine for it’s class, but all it needs is… to come to Canada! What’s up with these manufacturers?! Do they not like money or something? Like honestly! Ok that was a bit too extreme for a rant, but I do hope to see this car or at least a Toyota sports car of some sort or another in the near future driving on Canadian soil. Honda and Toyota both need new sport compacts, and I think the world’s awaiting.
